POST CONFERENCE TOURS (FULLY BOOKED) On the 19th of January, there will be a full-day post-conference tour to local animal shelters and a wetland reserve. The tour will start at 9am and finish at approximately 5pm. Pick up and drop off point will be the Furama RiverFront hotel. The tour includes visits to: The ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (www.acres.org.sg) The ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC) is Singapore 's first dedicated wildlife rescue centre and currently houses reptiles and amphibians rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, as well as injured individuals of native species. The AWRC also serves an important role as a centre for education, with the dedicated on-site Lee Foundation Education Centre and the Outdoor Conservation Classroom. The Singapore SPCA animal shelter (www.spca.org.sg) The Singapore SPCA animal shelter houses unwanted, abused and abandoned animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and hamsters. The shelter receives approximately 600 unwanted/abandoned pets and stray animals every month. The shelter also has a clinic providing basic treatment, sterilisation of stray animals and sterilisation of in-house animals that are being put up for adoption. Sungei Buloh Wetalnd Reserve (www.sbwr.org.sg) Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is an 87-hectare Nature Reserve and includes both mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Sungei Buloh is well known for its amazing birdlife, particularly during the migratory season of September to March when huge flocks of shorebirds pay a visit. It is also home to an incredible diversity of fascinating native plants and animals, such as mudskippers, monitor lizards and mud lobsters. If you are very lucky, you may also catch a glimpse of the local family of smooth otters or the resident crocodile! |
