PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP TOPICS

Interactive workshops will be incorporated into the programme, both before and during AFA Singapore 2010. The workshops will be conducted to actively involve all participants, bringing about the sharing of ideas and the discussion of methods and long-term solutions, in the anticipation of all animal welfare bodies coming together to create a better future for all animals worldwide.


Pre-Conference Workshop Topics (15th January 2010)

1. Running Effective Education Outreach Programmes
Groups all over Asia have been conducting educational outreach programmes for many years. This workshop is a chance to share with each other what has worked well, difficulties encountered, as well as the best way forward towards achieving the ultimate goal of ending cruelty towards animals through instilling respect and kindness to all animals in all members of society, especially children. 2. Improving the Welfare of Animals in Captivity
ZooCheck is an area that to date has tended to receive less attention in Asia than other issues, yet it is an area where change is often possible and improvements to animal welfare can be made in a relatively short timeframe. Anybody can do a ZooCheck, and this session will equip you with all the knowledge and tools you need to start your own ZooCheck work, as well as exploring campaign strategies for captive animals. 3. Providing Optimal Veterinary Care
Veterinarians with a wide range of experience and expertise will be hosting this workshop, covering the most important veterinary practices and recent developments in veterinary medicine that can help your work. This is also a chance for you to ask these experts in their various fields any burning questions on veterinary medicine and animal care you may have. More >>>

4. Human – Macaque Interface
Urbanisation of South East Asian countries continues to create human- macaque conflicts. Whether it is habitat destruction, culling and poaching, or interference with their natural abilities to hunt and feed, we affect macaques in countless adverse ways. In this rapidly overpopulating world, coexistence is the only viable option. This workshop will bring together relevant government agencies, NGOs, urban developers and individuals working on macaque projects throughout Southeast Asia.
